Women are the minority when it comes to motorcycling, as many surveys estimate between 10% and 20% of all motorcyclists are females. Sarah Schilke, national marketing manager of BMW Motorrad USA and chair of PowerLily, a group made up of female motorcycle industry professionals, said that “Women continue to embrace motorcycling like never before. Of the 9.2 million owners, more of them are women than we’ve ever recorded. And among the more than 30 million Americans who swung a leg over a motorcycle and rode at least one time in 2014, a quarter of these riders were women.”
Motorcycle collectives (e.g. Litas and New York’s Miss-Fires) spread the message of gender equality on the open roads. They find other riders enthusiastic about it. A new generation of female bikers inspires each other with shared ideals: freedom of the road and companionship. Here are 15 awesome pics of women riding motorcycles.
